Press ReleasesCorning Leader"Multi Media Stays Ahead of Printing Game" by Sarah Grossman [South Corning] Multi Media Services/Sunset Printers is banking $500,000 that a new press will help save both time and money and improve the quality of its products. Owners Richard Bartholemow and Daniel Flatt showed off their new Ryobi 3403E-DI waterless press Thursday that should help attract new business and create the need for more staff. "We've always been a leader in the area," Bartholomew said. "We had the first color printer in Western New York." The owners said the company will increase its work load and put workers on a 12-hour split shift, eventually going to two shifts. "In this business you have to be able to perform a job within a day or two, sometimes within hours," Bartholomew said. The new machine is the cutting edge of technology, said Flatt, because the plates are made of silicone and repel the ink without the use of water. In traditional printing presses, plates need to be manually wiped down to prevent the ink from adhering and causing runs and blotches on the paper. Also, the DI press uses lasers to create the images on the plates resulting in precise images with greater depth and brighter color, Flatt said. The new press also requires less prep time and creates less waste. Over time, the change could save the business around $20,000 annually in paper costs. Since 2000, the company has doubled its size and currently employs 20 people with offices in Corning, Elmira and Athens. The new press will allow the company to hire at least two more people and expand its business for continued growth, he said. "By next year I would like to have a second DI," Flatt said. |
